Sensex Surges 2,000 Points as Crude Oil Slumps, Nifty Reclaims 24,500
- BSE Sensex gained 2,008 points (+2.60%) to close at 79,310.01
- NSE Nifty 50 rallied 576 points (+2.40%) closing above 24,536
- Brent crude correction eased import costs and macro inflation fears
- FIIs turned net buyers after persistent October selling
The Indian equity market staged an explosive rally on Thursday, with the BSE Sensex skyrocketing over 2,008 points (2.60%) to settle near 79,310, while the broader NSE Nifty 50 surged 576 points (2.40%) to comfortably reclaim the psychological 24,500 milestone.
The rally was driven by a sharp drop in Brent crude futures, which tumbled into the mid-$93/barrel zone. As India imports over 85% of its crude requirements, softer energy prices provide major relief to fiscal deficit concerns, fuel inflation trajectory, and corporate profit margins for transport, paints, chemicals, and aviation sectors.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned net buyers after weeks of relentless outflows, injecting fresh liquidity into frontline financials. Heavyweights Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, and HDFC Bank accounted for more than half of the index gains.
In simple terms: When oil prices fall, Indian companies spend less on raw materials and transport, helping their profits grow. Foreign investors noticed this and bought large stakes in Indian banks and blue-chip stocks.
